My Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner has come in handy more times than I can count. It lets me digitize all kinds of paper (including things you might not even think of), making it easier for me to find whatever documents I might need later on.
Here’s a short list of the things I’ve scanned just over the last few months:
- Maintenance records for home repairs
- Business expense receipts, to help me prepare my tax return
- ID cards of all kinds – health insurance, driver’s license, etc.
- All the contents of my wallet, to allow for easier replacement in case the wallet gets lost or stolen
- Receipts for high-end purchases, for insurance purposes
- Deposited checks
- Receipts for clothing items I may want to return
- Favorite birthday and other greeting cards
- New appliance receipts
- Business cards
- Agendas and handouts from meetings
- Recipes from cooking magazines
- Theater and concert tickets
- Mementos from my favorite family trips.
Most of these items have gone into either Evernote or Dropbox, depending on what I use them for.
What have you used your ScanSnap for? I’d love to hear about it – the more unusual, the better!

I have been looking for a scanner. I can’t wait to start scanning my children’s school papers! This is a great post!
Thanks Daria! I’d love to know which scanner you end up getting – email me if you have any questions setting it up!http://www.orderyourlife.net/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?p=2865#comments-form
