Tip of the Week
Storing frying pans
Tip of the Week - Monday, May 14th, 2012.
This is a simple, yet ingenious way to stack/store your frying pans without scratching their surfaces and having to pick them all up to get to the one on the bottom!
Controlling the stuffies!
Tip of the Week - Monday, May 7th, 2012.
If your kids are anything like my darling nieces, they LOVE their stuffed animals, and have LOTS of them that they refuse to part with. Here’s a fun and practical way to keep them all in one place!
Keeping cosmetics organized
Tip of the Week - Monday, April 30th, 2012.
I just found out about these incredibly cool bathroom organizers at the NAPO conference in March. They are magnetic and stick to the inside of your medicine cabinet to hold everything from cotton swabs to lipsticks, and are even adjustable depending in the size of the item you are storing. So simple, but so clever! Why didn’t I think of this?
Keeping your computer desktop organized
Tip of the Week - Monday, April 23rd, 2012.
For maximum efficiency, try to keep your computer desktop clear of distractions and clutter, as you would your actual desk. Only active files, icons and shortcuts should be visible. The more “stuff” you have on your screen, the harder it is to find what you actually need. Take a few minutes to go through folders and delete what you no longer need or archive older files to a CD, Dropbox, or external hard drive.
Shredding made easy
Tip of the Week - Monday, April 16th, 2012.
Be still my beating heart – I may have found the perfect at-home shredder! This Swingline Stack and Shred offers hands-free shredding, which means you can stack up to 60 pieces of paper in the feeder bin, close it up, and let ‘er rip, all while you do other more important things. It produces a cross hatch shred and has a 4 gallon pull out bin to empty shredded paper and can also handle credit cards and smaller amounts of paper. Plus, it’s super quiet – what’s not to like?
Toss your user manuals
Tip of the Week - Monday, April 9th, 2012.
As a professional organizer, one of the biggest space wasters I come across with my clients is user manuals. So I am excited to have found a site, Retrovo.com, that centralizes just about every kind of user manual for consumer electronics you can think of. So feel free to toss that user manual in the recycling bin – chances are, if you ever need it, you can find it on line!
International traveling light
Tip of the Week - Monday, April 2nd, 2012.
Got this great tip from one of my Australian organizer colleagues – when traveling to a foreign country with different electrical outlets, make sure to pack a power strip and only one international plug. Then you can easily charge your laptop, camera, phone, etc. all at the same time without having to buy multiple international adaptors!
Something for the pilers, not the filers!
Tip of the Week - Monday, March 26th, 2012.
Not everyone likes to keep things in files. Some people just prefer to keep piles on their desks. If you are a diehard piler, then this is the product for you! Organize your piles, keep them in a tidy tray, and find everything quickly with color coded erasable tabs.
A place for all your membership cards
Tip of the Week - Monday, March 19th, 2012.
Tired of keeping track of all your loyalty and reward cards? A great app to keep them organized on your iPhone or Android is KeyRing, which lets you scan them all all and keep them in one place! It even has a built-in store locator, explanations of how each reward program works, and special offers with participating companies. Try letting your regular loyalty card do all that for you!
Double your hanging closet space
Tip of the Week - Monday, March 12th, 2012.
Hanging closet rods are a great way to simply and inexpensively add hanging space to your basic reach-in closet. Hang your shirts on the top and slacks on the bottom, or whatever you need extra room for. There are many different kinds of double hanging rods out there, but I like the idea behind this adjustable one, which lets you change the height if you want to hang something of a different length on the bottom or top.
